Deer Lake Park is one of Burnaby’s picturesque and peaceful blimps of nature in an otherwise busy city. There are scenic trails, lake views and plenty of grass to play in.
The area is an arts and cultural cub, which hosts outdoor concerts, festivals, weddings, picnics and other activities. It’s home to the Burnaby Art Gallery, Burnaby Village Museum, Festival Lawn & Spirit Square, Century Gardens, Shadbolt Centre for the Arts and more.
It’s also a popular setting for movies and is used regularly by a number of television productions in Vancouver.

The Burnaby Art Gallery doubled as the ΧΦΒ Fraternity house in The Butterfly Effect. The psychological and supernatural/sci-fi thriller about chaos theory stars Ashton Kutcher and Amy Smart.
The Day The Earth Stood Still (2008)
The Hart House Lawn at Deer Lake Park was used as a cemetery in The Day The Earth Stood Still which was adapted from the 1951 film which was based on a 1940 short story. The sci-fi film stars Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly, Kathy Bates, Jon Hamm, John Cleese, Kyle Chandler and a young Jaden Smith.
She’s The Man (2006)
The Shadbolt Centre for the Arts doubled as Illyria Preparatory School in She’s The Man. The sports-comedy stars Channing Tatum and Amanda Bynes who doubled as a boy.

Final Destination 3 (2006)
All five installments of the Final Destination franchise have filmed in studio and on location around Metro Vancouver. Deer Lake was utilized in Final Destination 3, the supernatural horror flick cast includes locals Amanda Crew, Alexz Johnson, Chelan Simmons, Crystal Lowe, Sam Easton, Jesse Moss, and Gina Holden.

While not in Deer Lake Park, Jennifer’s Body used nearby Robert Burnaby Park for multiple scenes: the forest scene with a football player, Jennifer seducing Chip scenes and the prison fence scene. The supernatural horror dark comedy stars Megan Fox, Amanda Seyfried, Johnny Simmons and Adam Brody.
