Free BC Family Day Events In Metro Vancouver, By City

Family Day, a B.C. stat holiday since 2013 will take place on February 8th this year, and many cities across the province are celebrating with free activities to help families make the most of their day.

BC Family Day Freebies

Across B.C.

Select BC Ferries Sailings

BC Ferries is offering free sailings and accomodation for kids with select vacation packages. Bookings must be made by February 15.

 

Coquitlam

On February 7, Coquitlam is celebrating early with a day full of active fun at the Pinetree Community Centre. There will be a wide variety of fun activity options and healthy snacks are provided. Parking and admission are free.

On February 8, Poirier Community Centre will host a free day of entertainment, games, and lots of kids activities.

 

Burnaby

Burnaby Village Museum

The museum is celebrating Family Day with a children’s entertainer, a children’s art activity, and some heritage games. There is a $6.50 charge for admission, however carousel rides are free and unlimited.

 

Delta

Does your family want to pick-up some new skills this weekend? The Winskill Aquatics and Fitness Centre is offering free family learn-to-swim lessons on February, 6, and Ladner Leisure Centre is offering the same the following day on February. See times and pre-register!

Sungod Recreation Centre is offering free 30-minute skate lessons on February 8.

In addition, Delta is also offering free hockey and dodgeball tournaments, and family canvas creations. Find details here.

 

New West

Canada Games Pool

Free family swim between 11:30am – 5:00pm. Festivities will include the water slide, face-painting, duck racing and more.

 

Richmond

The City of Richmond has over 40 planned events for February 8th, and they’re all free!  Activities range from tea and lunch to recreational drop-ins and arts. See the full list here.

 

Surrey

Treasure Hunt

The City of Surrey and Partners in Parks are hosting an outdoor treasure hunt on the weekend – geocaching-style. Participants will navigate to GPS coordinates and search for hidden container treasures.

Surrey Sport & Leisure Complex

The following Family Day activities will be available at  no charge:

  • Adults Barre Strength & Stretch: 9:30–10am
  • Family Bollywood Aerobics: 10:15am–10:55am
  • Wellness Lecture: 11am–12pm
  • Active Living Fair: 10am–12pm
  • Family Fun Swim: 12–3pm
  • Children’s Skilltastics, CPR refresher and demo, fitness testing, fitness bingo, prizes

Swimming:

All City of Surrey Pools will offer free public swims and aquatic activities during the following times on BC Family Day.

  • Guildford Aquatic Centre  (1pm – 4pm)
  • Newton Wave Pool (noon – 3pm)
  • South Surrey Indoor Pool (1:30pm – 5pm)
  • Surrey Sport & Leisure Aquatic Centre (noon – 3pm)
  • North Surrey Indoor Pool (1pm – 4pm)

 

Arena Activities:

Enjoy a free family skate at the following arenas (rentals included)

  • Cloverdale Arena (10:45am – 12:15pm)
  • Newton Arena (11:30am – 12:45pm)
  • North Surrey Arena (11:15am – 12:45pm)

 

Vancouver

Van Dusen Gardens

Get active and enjoy 55 acres of outdoor fun in the middle of the City. Spot local wildlife, enjoy a family picnic and discover over 7,000 different plants from around the world!

 

BC Sports Hall of Fame

Youth (12 & under) will receive free admission during Red Mitten Weekend – February 6, 7, and 8.

 

West Vancouver Community Centre

On Monday February 8th, all ages can enjoy free open gymnastics, family swim, family skate, Will Stroet concert, and some bouncy castle fun.

 

Robson Square

On February 8, Robson Square will providing free skate rentals (9am- 9pm), free ice skating, and free hot chocolate (2pm-8pm).

 

Whistler

Ziplining

Youth zip for free on February 8.
